The Book of Mormon (London)
After stunning audiences on both Broadway and the West End, winning 9 Tony Awards - including Best Musical - and even winning a Grammy award for the soundtrack, The Book of Mormon is rapidly becoming a theatrical phenomenon. Comedy duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone - the geniuses behind the animated hit South Park - joined forces to create this hilarious musical that breathes three-dimensional, all-singing, all-dancing life into the absurdities of Mormon dogma, whilst simultaneously being incredibly rude, potentially offensive and above all, unexpectedly endearing.
The musical tells the story of two Salt Lake City Mormons sent as missionaries to Uganda, hoping for a few baptisms and a couple of conversions. Instead, they are welcomed by some very harsh realities and a particularly unpleasant warlord. The lyrics are guaranteed to have you weeping with laughter, and you'll almost certainly be humming the music by Avenue Q's Robert Lopez for weeks after. It's fun, lightweight, but thought-provoking, too; addressing everything from consumerism to religion, The Book of Mormon is a musical like no other. Its staggering and well-deserved success make it a real must-see.
"The most cryingly good night out to have come along in years." - The Observer
"It's simply a work of genius, so brilliantly conceived and executed that it makes astonishingly savage and sophisticated satire into joyous, hilarious, literally all-singing, all-dancing fun and glamour." - The Guardian
"Trey Parker and Matt Stone might just be the saviours of the modern musical. The result isn't just great: it's monumental" ★★★★★ - Huffpost Comedy

The show is very cleverly written and had me laughing all the way through. Everything is pretty much flawless, the timing and delivery of lines is superb. The show received a standing ovation, which is no surprise. I would recommend this to anyone with a decent sense of humour.

I've lived in London a long time and seen many shows. As a rule I tend not to like musicals but this was the best show I've ever seen, I also work in the business so am usually hyper critical of these things. I can't fault it. It was beyond brilliant and pushing boundaries to the very limit. My parter came, who grew up in Africa and he found the Africa scenes super funny. I've told my friends and family if there is one show you see in your entire life make it this one. I'll never forget it. Perfect casting, choreography, pacing, energy, pitch, tone, and taboo lyrical madness. Probably not one for your elderly religious relatives, unless they are feeling the anal love vibe

I was disappointed as expected something a little more clever and sophisticated. The humor was quite trivial, stating the obvious sort of thing. People around me seemed to enjoy it a lot though. Very commercial, lacking depth and the music was not that great either. Sorry

Everything involved within the performance was fabulous. The songs well written and performed spectacularly. Would highly recommend to anyone who isn't too precious about swear words or religious untouchableness. Spectacularly funny, witty and involved.

When i saw the title i thought it was going to be a boring show about the history of the Mormons but my other half convinced me it was supposed to be funny so i decided to agree and book the show. I wasn't disappointed - a very funny show that is not for those who are easily offended. The language is very colourful (to say the least) but i am not one who takes offence to this kind of thing, but just to warn those who may not be so comfortable in hearing pretty coarse language. However, as i say it didn't offend me in the least, nor the people that were sitting close to me. I can fully recommend to go and watch this show and i shall listen to my other half a bit more from now on (i haven't told her that though!)

Well, what a refreshing experience to have in the West End. I cannot remember a time, thatI have laughed so much in a theatre...unless you count the time my mate got electrocuted and split the second hand on his watch. Anyhooo I digress, a brilliant performance by the cast and the orchestra/musicians... I don't think I'll look at Kermit the same.

The Book of Mormon is side-splittingly funny and had me in laughter from the first 'hello' until the moment the curtains were closed. Yes, it borders on what is acceptable, so it's not for the faint hearted. The production is put together so well and is a credit to Parker, Lopez and Stone. It's definitely on my recommended list and I would happily see it again.

If you're lucky enough to somehow have a ticket for this, the most cryingly good night out to have come along for years, and are by any chance looking forward to a smug few British-liberal hours sneering at the mad imbecilities of self-righteous Americans and organised religion, I have to tell you that you'll be disappointed. The Book of Mormon is far, far cleverer, far kinder, far more nuanced than that, and one of its many surprises is that it sent an enraptured, ecstatic audience home with an odd sense of having come, somehow, to really like Mormons.
You'll laugh your head off. Mormon is musical comedy heaven.
The Genii of South Park hit Broadway, and history is made. Mormon is on its march into legend.
